JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation will bring back “’At Christmas be mery’: A Special Evening” at Historic Jamestowne this holiday season.

The costumed-interpreter program that offers a unique look into 17th-century Christmas traditions in the English colony will return to Historic Jamestowne in two sessions on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Guests will experience an early Virginia Christmas celebration featuring a seasonal bonfire, caroling and firing of the Christmas guns.

The Captain of the Guard will give a brief introduction to what the Jamestown settlers expected during their Christmastide before escorting the “new arrivals” along a cresset-lit path to the 1618 Church.

Sir Francis Wyatt, Virginia’s newly arrived Governor, will then offer a welcome to the guests and then lead everyone into singing traditional Christmas carols together.

The evening will conclude with a bonfire with remembrances of “Yule times” past and the firing of the Christmas guns.

Tickets are limited, according to the Jamestowne Rediscovery Foundation. The cost of tickets are $24.95 each and must be purchased in advance.
