Cleveland Guardians game vs. Detroit Tigers postponed by weather, rescheduled as traditional doubleheader Aug - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Guardians’ All-Star break is starting a few hours earlier than scheduled.

Sunday’s series finale against the Detroit Tigers, the final game before the break, has been postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as part of traditional doubleheader on Monday, Aug. 15 starting at 3:10 p.m.

Fans with tickets for this game will have the option to exchange into one of 30 game options, including the doubleheader. Those who already have tickets for Aug. 15 and who want to attend both games of the doubleheader may do so and will have the same seat for both games. Fans can start making exchanges today, July 17 at 5 p.m. ET through their My Tickets accounts. Tickets must be exchanged by Monday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m. EDT.

This is the ninth home game this season the Guardians have had postponed by rain or cold weather. Their most recent postponement came on July 1 against the Yankees, a game that was made up the following day as a split doubleheader. The Guardians have already played eight doubleheaders this year. Their next planned one is slated for Saturday in Chicago against the White Sox.

So far this season, Cleveland is 7-9 in those doubleheader contests.

It’s officially the MLB All-Star break for Cleveland. This year’s All-Star festivities will take place at Dodger Stadium in L.A.

Guardians third baseman José Ramírez will participate in Monday’s home run derby (8 p.m. EDT, ESPN). Ramírez turned down invitations to join the derby in the past, and he and the team mutually agreed that he sit out the derby in both 2018 and 2021, he told reporters on Saturday. But this year, he finally gets a chance to prove himself going against some of the games biggest sluggers.

“I especially want to do it for my Mom,” Ramírez said Saturday via interpreter Agustin Rivero. “She wanted to see me there. In the past, obviously there were invitations but it really couldn’t happen. This year, it happened. I especially want to do it for my family.”

The All-Star game is Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT and will air on FOX. Andrés Giménez will start at second base in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star game, replacing Jose Altuve. The Houston second baseman was the elected starter following the fan vote, but has elected not to participate while he deals with a knee injury. Ramírez and Cleveland reliever Emmanuel Clase are the two other Guardians joining him on the American League roster.

The Guardians will be back in action on Friday as they kick off a 11-game road trip with a four-game series against the White Sox. First pitch in that Friday contest is slated for 8:10 p.m. EDT.

Following the White Sox Series, Cleveland will travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox in a four game series, and then make their way down to Tampa Bay for a three-game series against the Rays.

Coming out of the break, the planned pitching rotation for the Guardians will be: RHP Cal Quantrill, Friday; RHP Triston McKenzie, Saturday game one in the White Sox doubleheader with the game two starter to be determined; RHP Shane Bieber, Sunday; RHP Zach Plesac, Monday; TBD, Tuesday.
