CLEVELAND, Ohio -- About 325 public school districts are planning for a five-day return to school, in-person, according to data compiled by the Ohio Department of Education.
Gov. Mike DeWine introduced the data in a press conference focused on back-to-school. The debate over school reopening has heated up in Ohio and nationwide as coronavirus case numbers continue to climb.
The health departments in Cuyahoga, Summit and Franklin counties, which house urban centers Cleveland, Akron and Columbus, respectively, recently recommended that students begin schools remotely.
DeWine said that on the map:
-- 325 school districts plan to return on a 5-day plan, or about 38% of public school students
-- 55 school districts plan to begin remote, or about 25.6% of public school students
-- 154 school districts are planning for a hybrid model, or about 24.5% of the public school population. A hybrid
-- 78 school districts did not submit data
The map represents traditional public school districts. It does not show the plans of private or parochial schools. It also does not reflect how hybrid plans might work, where certain grade levels would stay at home while others would attend in-person.
