The term “director’s cut” usually means an edited version of a film or video that’s supposed to represent the director’s own approved edit. “Director’s Cut” is also the online exhibition curated by Judith Pishnery, the executive director of the Atlanta Photography Group. She joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes via Zoom to discuss the wide-ranging photographs that were shot in traditional genres.
The 2020 exhibition pivoted to an online platform in order to be more accessible for viewers.
“There’s nothing like seeing photography or any artwork in person, but at least with creating the online virtual gallery we’re able to share it with a lot more people in a lot more areas and not just in the Atlanta area,” Pishnery said. “They’re able to enjoy it from across the country as well as around the world.”
The photographs were taken from submissions that were not exhibited in previous shows. Pishnery re-examined those works and decided to curate a show that would showcase photographs that were not selected for other exhibitions.
“The ‘Director’s Cut’ exhibition is my chance to go back through all the submitted work and look through it to the images that were not chosen by the other jurors and make my own selections and create and curate an exhibition with those extremely fantastic and wonderful works,” said Pishnery.
The online gallery can be viewed here.
