CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The new board at Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce was sworn-in Friday, but not in a traditional way.
During a Zoom meeting, the board members lifted their hands and repeated in unison their vows to uphold the bylaws of the chamber, as dozens of other chamber members looked on through their screens at home or in offices.
“I think 2021, as soon as we can get out of the house, is going to be awesome,” said Cindy Brief, the chamber’s president and CEO. “I couldn’t be happier to have the best board I ever had.”
The annual State of the Chamber ceremony usually takes place in a catered hall, but the pandemic has forced the event to go virtual.
Still, those in attendance didn’t seem to mind.
For many business owners and representatives, the organization has served as a way to stay in touch through the financial challenges of the pandemic by attending online meet-ups, workshops, and other events.
“If we didn’t have the chamber to connect and see each other, I don’t know what we would do,” said Andrea Jacobs, the chamber’s chair and managing partner at Brodzki Jacobs In Coral Springs.
The event’s presenter, Fiserv, has long supported the chamber and its initiatives promoting diversity in the business community and inclusion of companies big and small, said Shane Caldwell, vice president of business development and strategy at Fiserv, who, too, is on the board.
He said Fiserv recently launched its Back2Business Grants program for minority-owned small businesses in Orange, Miami-Dade, and Broward counties.
“I’m a big proponent of the chamber and even more this year,” Caldwell said.
New board members of the chamber for 2021 are: Jeffrey Burnett of Coral Square Mall, Shane Caldwell of Fiserv, Shirley Klein of Realty 100, Kate Goldman of Baptist Health, Melissa Heller who is deputy city manager of Coral Springs, Sheila Rose who is deputy city manager of Coconut Creek, Ray Carballo of Blue Stream, and Sue Butler of Aston Gardens.
Existing board members for 2021 are: Andrea Jacobs of Brodzki Jacob; Antonio Milian of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital; Donna Denton, AmTrust Bank; Donna Giannoccoli, Al Hendrickson Toyota; Dr. Juan Nogueras, Cleveland Clinic Florida; Gisele Rahael, Amera Corporation; James Lozano, First Citizens Bank; Jamie Johnson, CGI Business Solutions; Joanne Stanley, Republic Services; John Biggie, JB Management & Maintenance; Joy Arauz, JM Lexus; Karen Matroni, Promenade at Coconut Creek; Leandro Figureo, Performance Title Inc; Michael Leopold, Broward Health Coral Springs; Robert Friedman, Kelley Kronenberg PA; Ron Renzy, Wallberg & Renzy PA; Thomas Walker, Broward College; Tim Hogans, Florida Power & Light; and Tracy Lautomne, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.
