How would one describe the sport of lawn mower racing?
"Well, there's a saying in some clubs. 'It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on!'" said racer Andrea Carolfi.
For the everyday American, lawn mowers were made to, quite simply, cut your grass. But for the Wisconsin Lawn Mower Racing Association, the machines take on an entirely different purpose."I watched it and I was like, 'Yep! I'm gonna do that!'" said Carolfi.
Young or old, lawn mower racing is a sport for everybody.
"My whole family is doing it," said club President Ken Beckrow, "I've got my kids, my son, my wife, my granddaughter. They all race. It's nice to have the younger generation get into it, because that's the future of racing. It's nice, we're all race family. We race for points, we don't race for money. We all get trophies and bragging rights, and that's it.
However, when the opening ceremonies end, all bets are off.
"With it changing all the time, I can be doing great and then be in last. It's so unpredictable," said Carolfi.
The Wisconsin Lawn Mower Racing Association offers nine classes of races and they travel around the Badger State all summer long.
