Gabourey Sidibe is a one-of-a-kind bride.
The “Precious” actress covers Brides’
“Style Issue,” and told the magazine that when she marries fiancé Brandon Frankel, it likely won’t be in a white wedding dress.
“It cannot be a traditional wedding. Really, it can’t be,” she said. “I don’t want anything done the ‘traditional’ way. Our relationship is very much on our terms and I want it to be fun, like a true party.”
Since that stance extends to Sidibe’s gown — “I definitely don’t need a white dress,” she said — the star posed in an array of unique designs for her shoot, including a bold printed Talla number and a bright yellow tulle look by Oyemwen styled with Converse.
“My favorite look [from the shoot] was the pink African print. Honestly, whatever I wear on the wedding day will probably be African print,” the 39-year-old “Empire” star said.
“It might have a little white, so it looks like a wedding dress, but it’s definitely going to be colorful.”
Her biggest bridal muse? Fellow actress Danielle Brooks of “Orange Is the New Black” fame.
“She had two beautiful dresses — one created by Christian Siriano, who I’ve also worn before. When the time comes, I am definitely going to hit him up to create a custom look, maybe even African print,” Sidibe said.
And expect the star’s accessories and beauty look to be equally bold.
“I want lots of jewelry in my hair. I also want beautiful eye makeup with very, very long butterfly eyelashes and a very bold lip,” she said.
Frankel proposed to Sidibe in November 2020, presenting her with a round brilliant diamond set on a pavé band, which he helped design with Seattle-based jeweler Pendergast & Painter.
