ST. IGNACE, MI – The second annual Highlander Festival in St. Ignace is expected to be a celebration of Scottish heritage, including traditional Highland Games.
The Highland Games will be the centerpiece of this family friendly festival. The events are planned for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at Coast Guard Park, 1075 Huron St. in St. Ignace. There will also be music, a beer tent, food trucks and “Clan Row.”
A true spectator sport, the Highland Games will include the caber toss, hammer throw, sheaf toss and stone throw. All athletes will wear Scottish kilts for the competition.
The Pub Runners, of Gaylord, will playing popular Irish American Folk music throughout the day. At 4 p.m., the Glen Erin Pipe and Drum band, of Lansing, will perform.
“Clan Row” will feature booths by several Michigan chapters of Scottish clans, allowing guests to learn more about their lineage, tartan and more.
“This event was so fun last year and had a great turn out,” said Quincy Ranville, St. Ignace Visitors Bureau’s events director. “We can’t wait to see what the new additions this year will do for this unique and family friendly event.”
The visitors bureau is organizing the festival with the Michigan Highlanders.
