Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. There is power in that statement. Hawaiian activist and Molokaʻi resident Walter Ritte has worked for decades to restore ancient fishponds, or loko iʻa.
He says that window to the past can put us on a path toward future resiliency and food sustainability. Ritte is the founder of the nonprofit group ʻĀina Momona. He's also linked with the New York coalition Don’t Cage Our Oceans, pushing back against industrial aquaculture.
