Listing of the Day

Location: San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Italy

Price: €12.7 million (US$14.07 million)

Along with three pools, elaborate gardens and a chapel, this traditional Tuscan estate that dates to the 13th century offers 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms spread across a wide range of accommodations, including two private villas and a restored farmhouse.

"The layout of the estate is really special," listing agent Riccardo Romolini said. Each part of the compound is "really independent, with good privacy, in the middle of grounds and beautiful gardens."

The buildings on the estate have been completely renovated by local artisans, he said.

From 1989 to 2000, the compound was owned by the late Dutch painter Karel Appel. One of his sculptures, "The Horse," can still be seen in the lavender garden. Except for a few personal items, the estate, which overlooks the Chianti Classico Hills, is being sold furnished, Mr. Romolini said.

The three-level main villa currently has four bedrooms, but "it could easily go to five or six in total," he said. It also has a two-level watchtower and is surrounded by an area with ponds and formal gardens.

The rose garden is particularly attractive, Mr. Romolini said. "The roses bloom from spring to September—there is always something blooming."

Next to the main villa there is a complex with three apartments now being rented. A fourth apartment is occupied by a couple who work as caretakers for the estate.

A nearby smaller villa has five bedrooms and a private pool.

Another complex holds an old farmhouse that has been refashioned into four rental apartments, each of which is equipped with a garden, a terrace and a parking area. It, too, has its own swimming pool.

"It has its own entrance and is completely independent," Mr. Romolini said. "They just did a huge restoration" on the former farmhouse.

The buildings on the estate have a rich array of interesting architectural details, including ceilings with wooden beams, original terracotta flooring, a brick kitchen, luxury marble bathrooms, frescoed walls, marble flooring, vaulted ceilings and marble fountains and sculptures, according to the listing.

The estate also has a 56-square-meter historic chapel built circa 1647.

"The couple who are the caretakers are fantastic," Mr. Romolini said. "They keep everything in perfect condition—everything is really, really well maintained."

Stats

The estate offers a total of 1,900 square meters (20,450 square feet) of interior space, with 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms. It sits on a 12.36-acre parcel.

Amenities

Amenities include three pools surrounded by expansive terraces, vineyards, olive gardens, four formal gardens, a private forest, a playground, a charger for electric cars, table tennis, multiple fireplaces and elegant tall cypress trees used as privacy landscaping.

Neighborhood Notes

San Casciano in Val di Pesa is a "typical Tuscan village with a bar, a restaurant, a bank, a post office," Mr. Romolini said. "It’s not a huge center, but you can find a market and everything you need."

It’s about a 40-minute drive to Florence, he said.
