It’s certainly been a chilly spring so far. Or should we just call it an extension of winter at this point.
Mother’s Day morning featured a record-tying low temperature, with the mercury tumbling all the way down to 34 degrees on Sunday morning at Logan Airport.
Happy May 10th.

This completed a weekend of unusually cold weather. Even a few snowflakes fluttered across Boston skies on Saturday. Logan Airport recorded a trace of snow on Saturday, and areas just outside the city saw measurable accumulation. Boston’s high on Saturday was a whopping 44 degrees — a full 20 degrees below average for May 9.
Goodness.
After a chilly Sunday, however, temperatures should at least begin to crawl back closer toward more seasonable levels for mid-May. A cold front will bring in showers and even a few thunderstorms for Monday, but at least temperatures should climb up to around 60 degrees. Hail and gusty winds could accompany some of those storms on Monday afternoon, so have the car in the garage or car port, if you have access to one.
The good news? Once Monday passes, the rest of the week looks mainly sunny. Behind the front, though, temperatures will be a bit cool for mid-May. Highs will only top out in the mid 50s under sunny skies on Tuesday, before temperatures gradually climb up into the 60s for Wednesday and Thursday.
The next chance of rain won’t come until Friday, when a storm system will probably lead to a pretty nasty Friday across the region.
Once Friday’s storm passes, though, maybe, finally and mercifully spring-like weather finally appears to settle into the region. If a cold front can stay to our north (and it currently appears that way), next weekend should have warm weather and mainly sunny skies. There’s still some disagreement among the computer forecast models, so don’t take it to the bank quite yet, but next weekend and early next week at least appear to be trending in the right direction. Sunshine and highs well into the 60s (perhaps the 70s) appear to be in the offing, though again, keep an eye on the forecast.
And after the spring we’ve had so far, it’s the least we deserve.
Right, Mother Nature?
