The VFW has canceled all other Memorial Day events.
  • American Legion Post 29 in Zanesville plans to place flags at Zanesville Memorial Garden on Saturday. The Post's Memorial Day event has been canceled, as has the Walter S Kildow Detachment of the Marine Corps League event at Greenwood Cemetery.
  • Bethel Church and Cemetery will not be hold its annual Memorial Day services. However, the cemetery will be open for visitation under state guidelines for social distancing and wearing of face masks. Donations for preservation of the church and cemetery can be mailed to Betty French, Treasurer, 4900 Sealover Hollow Road, Philo, OH 43771. Checks can be made payable to Bethel Cemetery, Bethel Church or Bethel Church and Cemetery.

Stars and Stripes canceled too

On Wednesday, the Zanesville Jaycees posted on its Facebook page that the Stars and Stripes on the River event had been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organization hopes to still be able to have fireworks, pending approval from local health officials, but all activities at Zane's Landing, including concerts and food vendors have been canceled.

"Before, during, and after the launch" the post concluded, "we ask everyone to stay safe, practice social distancing guidelines, remain in your vehicles, and avoid large gatherings to enjoy the fireworks."
