Welcome to Tuesday, May 5 happy Cinco de Mayo the weather is going to be OK not great but typical early May weather coming certainly were not gonna be as warm this week as we were last week for the next couple of days we’re gonna have a little bit of wind but today and Wednesday across most of the Intermountain West Western High Plains will be pretty decent mild temperatures plenty of sunshine just be ready for some gusty wins at times other is a cold front do Thursday and Friday this is especially true for Northern Wyoming southern Montana Western South Dakota we are going to get wet it’ll be windy and cooler elsewhere Thursday and Friday then very cold weather is going to sink into the Midwest in great Lakes later this week and through Mother’s Day weekend and into next week we’re still looking at the worst of the cold air stain just to the east of us. To our east way below average will show you that here in a minute we hope it stays to our east right now we’re on the razor is that it really just depends on what side of the divide you want and if you’re watching and listening to this podcast and you’re on the western side of Wyoming western side of Colorado you’re in Utah or Idaho or eastern Oregon Eastern Washington you’re on the warm side of things but if your east of the Cottonelle divide well it’s a bit of a different situation as he said the Cottonelle divide is where all the cool there’s going to be found later this week and into next week this is the precipitation forecast through Friday we talked about Northern Wyoming Center, Montana and western South Dakota and into Nebraska being the most wet this trip right here we can see the Thursday Friday cold plane tickets precipitation through that area there you can see that Mosa Colorado Southwest Kansas the four corners read. Most of the weather that looks wet through Friday it’s gonna be a long interstate 90 sections of I 25 in those areas take a look at temperatures on Wednesday now when I’m showing you every show you a few maps here that show your temperatures relative to normal and the numbers you see how much temperatures in Fahrenheit are going to be above average during the warmest part of the day anywhere you see green blue or purple colder than normal anywhere you see a bright orange or brown warmer than normal the warmest day of the week is Wednesday you can see this tongue of warm gets pushed into here and we got some warm air coming out of California and the desert states so the warmest day this week coming up is Wednesday by Thursday you can see this packet of colder here coming down the divide and right across this region hear you do think it’s a little cooler west of the dividers is closer to the ground cold air is more dense and it’s more heavy so it’s close to the ground so when it runs in the mountain barriers like the Cottonelle divide the cold air is got to get deep enough to jump over the divide to make the western slope cold but this shallow we call it a shallow cold air mass it’s not made very deep in my only be one or 2000 feet thick that’s why it’s not gonna get over the divide so where is the Cottonelle divide look up warm it is very very warm here this is how it’s going to be for the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend where is the divide a nice Mother’s Day weekend is the right kind of chilly especially Sunday into Monday with these below average temperatures one thing the computer models are notoriously bad at all these very thin Canadian air masses send meaning only 1000 or 2000 feet thick from the ground up above it then you’re going to see in forecast right now just because the models just don’t handle Canadian air masses very well especially in the spring in the mud trying to always remember about the weather models all weather models are wrong but some are useful so you have to make some adjustments that this is what the cold air looks like if we were to take a big broad look at all of North America this is for Mother’s Day afternoon you can see the Cottonelle divided dividing line look at all the purple in the green and the blue the blue goes all while we down into the golf coast this is ridiculously cold for early May for the eastern side of the United States the cold air looks like it reaches the peak by Tuesday I can’t look at the divide look at that can’t mail divide holding up the cold air these are some really cool temperature Caesars much is 30° low average by Tuesday maybe that Tuesday of next week daytime temperature is it may only be in the 40s and lower 50s now as we go out further will see that they should change but here is the reason here is the forecast jetstream for Sunday morning big high pressure in Western Canada allowing this big trough to cover the eastern side of Canada in the eastern side of United States there’s a smoke a cold there here’s another spoken cold here coming on and driving colder air at the ground towards areas of the central and eastern United States and you can see the subject of the year comes right over the continental divide this is what snow forecast is looking like up the next 10 days and you can see where the cold air is these are some pretty impressive snow totals or at least the risk of that for this time of year And the great lakes New England the mountains of West Virginia could they get snowed on yeah it is going to be a pretty big four S. look at this there’s even a hint of a few flakes of snow in the mountains in North Carolina by the time we get to early next week and even across parts of the Intermountain West there’s going to be cold enough enough cool there more mountain snow is going to come so we’re not quite there yet even though we had an 80s and 90s last week by 10 days from now by next Thursday and Friday the jetstream really flattens out so if it flattens out that means PacifiCare is coming in so we are going to be looking at some crazy temperature differences across the region through the middle of next week by late next week temperatures even out and the nation starts to warm up again however I still have to keep an eye on this because this is still a pocket really are here we get this package coming in what a likely happen is what are these guys here probably this guy is going to likely end up coming in in about two weeks time bring a wet pattern a slow-moving weight may storm probably around the 20th or so of May something that will need to keep an ion and that would be the type of May storm that brings widespread precipitation wet conditions after that storm is likely when you go back and look at historical patterns the way the weather works around here during the month of May then you’re getting close to that memorial day weekend when we start to see you more early summer pattern start to evil thanks for listening and watching the day with the podcast will talk to you on Wednesday
