Atlanta’s picturesque spring weather will continue on Sunday with clear blue skies and temperatures reaching the mid-80s.
Georgia’s shelter-in-place order expired Thursday evening for most residents, and many who are tired of being cooped up inside their homes may use the warm weekend weather as an excuse to get outdoors.
After a chilly start to Saturday, Sunday morning is expected to be slightly warmer, with temperatures in the 50s, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
By the afternoon, metro Atlanta will warm into mid-80s, leaving it just a few degrees shy of the record high of 91, which was set back in 1952.
The average high for this time of year is 77 degrees, Deon said.
“It’s going to be a bright, beautiful weekend, but it is going to be warm,” she said. “It’s definitely a nice day to get out there and enjoy it.”
Atlanta’s warm weather is expected to stick around through Monday, despite the chance of an isolated shower or two in far North Georgia.
The weather will cool off slightly by Tuesday and Wednesday, however, and a 30% chance of showers is forecast for both days, Deon said.
While there aren’t any major events planned this weekend amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some drivers could run into construction delays on Sunday.
In Atlanta, overnight road closures are planned on I-85 at Piedmont Road for a bridge rehabilitation project, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Three northbound lanes will be closed overnight between the Buford Highway connector ramp and Ga. 400, officials said. The project is expected to wrap up by 5 a.m. Monday.
