Homecoming 2020 brings a new twist to an old tradition on Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Fergus Falls campus.
While the fall event has mostly gone virtual this year, the community is still invited to celebrate as the campus plans “drive-through” festivities to mark homecoming and the 60th anniversary of the opening of M State’s campus in Fergus Falls.
In the 2020 version of tailgating, the college is giving away free homecoming t-shirts to the first 100 people who drive through the circle drive outside Legacy Hall between noon and 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. There’ll also be music and treats for kids, and socially distanced greetings from the Spartan mascot.
The drive-by tailgating will include a food “drive,” with visitors encouraged to bring canned goods, nonperishable items or hygiene items to donate to the M State student food pantry.
Just before the drive-through festivities on Friday, Fergus Area College Foundation is hosting an M State Alumni Live session from 11 a.m. to noon. Alumni, employees and faculty members will have a chance to reconnect and share memories following a brief campus update by President Carrie Brimhall. Register to receive the Zoom information for the alumni event at: https://smr.to/p69147.
To mark homecoming week from Oct. 26-31, students are being encouraged to volunteer in the community and take part in a week-long array of virtual events and contests, including the M State Homecoming 2020 5K Run/Jog/Run.
A full schedule of homecoming events and prizes is posted at minnesota.edu /homecoming.
