While Tuesday marked the first official spring practice, the Colonels have been hard at work leading up to this day.
"The guys had about six weeks in the weight room with director of sports performance Billy Brown, building muscle and strength," head coach Walt Wells said. "Then we moved on to our 'fourth quarter' drills two days a week, which included a wide variety of drills. We also had time we could spend on individual workouts as well."
After missing the opportunity to conduct spring practice last year and then playing a nine-game season in the fall, the staff certainly has some goals to accomplish over the next month.
"We want to develop our roster, understand where our depth is and understand who is playing what position," said Wells. "We're going to move some guys around and see what skill set fits the best in what position. We'll continue to build our football team. It's good for us to continue to teach the game – teach our offense, defensive and special teams – and teach our expectations and our culture. We'll get a lot of things done."
All spring practices are closed to the public. Fans will have an opportunity to get a look at the 2021 Colonels at the annual Maroon & White Game on April 24. The game will begin at 11 a.m. and admission is FREE. Fans are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing
