AGGIES OVERVIEW: North Carolina A&T will play their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home opener against Florida A&M on Saturday. The weekend will include four games starting with a noon doubleheader on Saturday. The Aggies are looking for their first win over the Rattlers since April 6, 2018, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Last time out, the Aggies recorded their first four wins of the season by sweeping a four-game weekend series at S.C. State.
The top two offensive players on the team are both freshmen, as left fielder Kendall Macauly leads the team with a .380 batting average with 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. Estrada has a .364 batting average with a team-high 20 hits, a team-high seven doubles, and three triples. She leads the MEAC in hits, doubles and triples.
In the four-game series at SCSU, the Aggies batted .372 with 31 runs scored, 31 RBI, nine doubles and three triples. Fuller batted .556 against SCSU. Macauley and senior designated player Samantha Ramirez each batted .500 and recorded five RBI apiece.
In the circle, freshman S'Nyiah Stinson leads the team with a 2-5 record and a 5.11 ERA with 19 strikeouts. In the four-game series at SCSU, the Aggies recorded a 2.24 ERA with nine strikeouts giving up eight runs in 25.0 innings pitched. Stinson led the team with a 2-0 record, a 1.08 ERA with seven strikeouts. Kiara Richards had a 2-0 record and a 3.50 ERA with two strikeouts.
FLORIDA A&M RATTLERS OVERVIEW: FAMU has been a traditional power in the MEAC. They own 13 MEAC championships, the most in the fast-pitch era. FAMU's first 11 games of the season were either postponed or canceled. The Rattlers started the season at the end of February with two losses in a doubleheader versus Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 26. The last time out, FAMU fell to Arizona 8-0 in Tallahassee on March 10.
Offensively, Melkayia Irvis leads the team with a .318 batting average with a team-best seven hits. Sydnee Worthy has a .250 batting average with five hits, and Seriah Brokenborough has a .238 batting average with five hits.
Nadia Zenteno leads the team with an 0-4 record and an 8.73 ERA in the circle. Brandice Boatwright has an 0-5 record and a 9.60 ERA.
In July, Constance Orr was promoted to head softball coach replacing legendary coach Veronica Wiggins.
WHO'S ON FIRE?: Estrada has reached base safely in 11 straight games. Deese had her on-base streak snapped at 14 over the weekend. Estrada has the most multiple-hit games on the team with six and tied for the most with Bennett and Macauley with three multiple-RBI games.
MEAC WEEKLY AWARDS: The MEAC named senior second baseman Stephanie Williams player of the week on Tuesday. She batted .444 (8-for-18) with a team-best eight RBI, two doubles and a run scored in six games last week. In a four-game series against SCSU, Williams batted .467 (7-for-15) with seven RBI, two doubles and a run scored. The conference named Estrada rookie of the week as she batted .400 (8-for-20) with a team-best seven RBI, a team-high three triples and three doubles. Against SCSU, Estrada also batted .467 (7-for-15) with three triples, two doubles, seven runs scored and six RBI.
