The wood paneling and stone fireplace may typify an old boys’ club library, but this Buckhead study belongs to the lady of the house. Interior designer Tish Mills gave it a colorful, stylish twist.
Start with art
An abstract, nature-inspired painting by Prescott through Deljou Art Group introduces rich hues to the room. “The objective was always to take a very traditional base and convert it into something much more transitional, rich in color,” says Mills.
Mod mood
The “Sputnik” light fixture by Robert Abbey is playful and sculptural.
Classic curves
The mahogany desk by Bolier reinvents a timeless writing table with its sexy base. Similarly, a traditional desk chair got a new look through reupholstery in dyed hide.
Fitting fireplace
Forget fussy decoration: This limestone mantel is clean and shapely and lightens up the cozy room.
Sumptuous seating
A striped velvet fabric on a side chair goes bold. “The strong color against the rich wood walls makes the space drip with luxury,” says the designer.
Designer tip: Some people like to start a room’s design with a rug, but in this case, Mills waited until she had other elements in place before choosing this peacock-inspired floorcovering to tie it all together.
