The COVID Grinch stole the Queen’s Christmas — at least at the British monarch’s traditional family venue.
For the first time in 33 years, the British royals will likely not gather together at the royal Sandringham estate for their annual festivities as Queen Elizabeth, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, retreat into government-mandated coronavirus lockdown at Windsor Castle for the next month, royal watchers say.
“We have been told not to expect them back for Christmas,” one Sandringham insider told The Sun.
Since 1987, the Queen has welcomed more than 30 family members at the sprawling Sandringham castle, about 100 miles north of London.
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace told the newspaper no final decision has been reached about the royal family’s plans for Christmas, and an official decision will be made when the lockdown ends in December.
