Peek at a Park Cities Tudor-style home that combines traditional design with modern living - The Dallas Morning News

Jerry Stark of The Stark Companies built this home from the ground up in 2006 after buying a Highland Park Tudor house. The original home, which he intended to remodel, proved to have foundation issues, so he built this modern-living take on Tudor style in its place.

“I have personal affinity for Tudor structures,” Stark said. “I’ve always appreciated that the best. really, of all other architectural styles.”

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom and two half-bathroom home sits on more than half an acre in the Park Cities. Its 8,890 square feet fit in three stories of space at 6620 Golf Drive with large bedrooms and multiple additional living spaces.

Listing agent Betsy Sorenson said the house provides ample room for entertaining, while maintaining an intimate design.

“The main family room, the kitchen and the breakfast room are all very open and have a really, nice, open flow.”

To maintain a traditional design, Stark added exterior details like the arched, cast-stone front doorway. Paned windows accent the home with its red brick and stone exterior. A large staircase in the symmetrical entry way is flanked by living and dining spaces.

The kitchen, which was remodeled in 2019, features up-to-trend white cabinets and textiles but maintains the traditional feel of the home.

“It really brought the house up to the current look that buyers are looking for today,” co-listing agent Tom Hughes said.

The family room and breakfast room connect to the kitchen on one side, and a dining room is accessible on the other. Beneath the large staircase rests a room designated for wine storage. The first floor also features a bedroom, typically designated for guests, with an ensuite bathroom. A wood-paneled study sits near the entrance.

The four remaining bedrooms rest on the second floor, each with an ensuite bathroom. The master suite has an attached, larger bathroom with two walk-in closets. A large game room sits on the second floor with its own bathroom, walk-in closet and wet bar. A second play room is the only room on the third floor, accessible by a staircase.

Outside, live oak trees accent the front of the property -- part of Stark’s intentional design -- and a pool fills a large portion of the backyard. A covered patio at the back of the house allows for outdoor entertaining.

“It’s one that you drive by and remember,” Hughes said. “The classic Tudor lines and the scale are outstanding.”
