McCracken Co. School board expects 10 non-traditional instruction days - WSIL TV

MCCRACKEN CO. (WSIL) -- The McCracken County School Board unanimously decided to submit an application to the State Board of Education for ten non-traditional instruction days due to Covid-19.

The decision took place in a special meeting on Friday and would go into effect on Monday, March 16.

The application allows the State Board of Education to waive the regulation that schools must apply 120 days before using their ten non-traditional instruction days.

Brian Bowland, Director of Personnel for McCracken County Schools, says 94% of students have access to the internet and would be able to do school work at home.

He points out that students without internet at home could use wi-fi at public libraries or businesses and that principals would work to get them paper handouts.

Breakfast and lunch will still be provided to students who rely on them, but the logistics still need to be worked out.

Officials with the school district expect the application to be approved and say they'll likely get an answer Friday afternoon.

If approved, this will not impact the school's calendar year.
